About Kimberly
I am an Arizona-based artist and sculptor whose work explores imagination, nature, and the quiet stories found in form and detail. Working across pen-and-ink, colored pencil, acrylic painting, sculpture, and microscopic imagery, I am drawn to creating pieces that feel distinctive, expressive, and a little unexpected.
My work often brings together botanical, animal, desert, fantasy, and natural forms, reflecting a lifelong love of creativity, observation, and storytelling. Whether I am drawing a mythical creature, sculpting in clay, painting on canvas, or transforming a scanning electron micrograph into fine art, I am fascinated by the details that are easy to overlook.
I create artwork that invites viewers to slow down, look more closely, discover something unexpected, and form their own connection with each piece.
Art, Nature & the Unseen
Nature is a recurring thread throughout my work, from flowers, animals, and desert landscapes to structures that exist far beyond what the human eye can normally see.
My scanning electron microscopy work allows me to explore that idea on an entirely different scale. I originally created the SEM photographs myself and now selectively colorize some of those images to reveal the extraordinary patterns, structures, and forms hidden within the natural world.
For me, there is a natural connection between a dragon surrounded by flowers, the texture of a clay sculpture, and the microscopic architecture of pollen or a butterfly wing. Each begins with curiosity and the desire to look closer.
My Process
I enjoy moving between mediums because each offers a different way to tell a story.
Pen-and-ink allows me to explore intricate linework and detail. Colored pencil gives me control over subtle layers of color and texture. Acrylic painting brings movement, atmosphere, and a freer approach to color. Sculpture allows an idea to leave the page entirely and become something that can be experienced from multiple angles.
Rather than limiting myself to one medium or subject, I allow the idea behind each piece to determine how it should be created.
